interior session

the exterior of the ferrari is still moving, final detaling is still happening, small fillets etc, nothing too exciting...

But what is indeed exciting is the arrival of INTERIOR!!! my good friend and an equally angry designer Andy Hart-Barron is responsible for this awesomeness!! enjoy this sketch for now, we are hoping to do some renderings of the car with its interior in place soon!

couple of illustrations

quick sketches, felt the need to draw the car in its final form... a bit like the press sketches that were done after the design was finsihed. cheesy but hey, thats how it works!

thanks for all the comments to the renderings, i am very happy most of you like the car! it was a long project and both Shon and I are very proud of it!

still in progress

i know i have not posted updates in a long time... but the ferrari gto is still running, almost done with the main volume! attaching a pic to this post just as a sample of where things are at right now. will post final renderings when the model is finished. Andy's interior looks great and also Shon has done a wonderful job with exterior surfacing. that rear fender was a bitch!

also, i have an idea/plan for the next angry project, should be slightly different from the stuff i have been posting here before. its still not fully ripe in my head so i have to spend some time thinking about it before i commit to it.

frankfurt was ok, will post some impressions soon, probably on the weekend.

Desperate to control all and everything

interesting how many people felt emotional about my last post. means that the subject matter does not leave you cold. agree or disagree.

i CAN actually disagree with my own previous post. i could write an equally emotional piece arguing exactly all of the opposite points. this just shows the amount of confusion happening in my head. i am my own devils advocate.

over thinking, over analyzing is what separates the body from the mind... somebody said. is this true? does analyzing every little thing that happens, trying to break it up into smaller and even smaller issues, is this the right thing to do? how conscious of your own self are we? how self aware?

there are some truths that are hard to argue against, but design is not one of them! in fact there is not many of those primary truths... off the top of my head i can only think of one: speed of light. even the other constants in physics are actually dependent of the reference frame! the mass of an electron is obviously dependent on its speed and the speed of the observer. there are not many of them is what i am trying to say.

but this is not about physics, its about our place in the world, designers role, if there is one. what is your immediate surrounding like? do you limit yourself within the walls of your house? studio? company? country? capitalist world? earth? do you live a life focusing on every immediate task that you get? one day at a time? or do you have a goal that is set for the next decade? lifetime?

someone said something about me being angry. what is anger? anger can be viewed as a consequence of confusion, it can also be viewed as an urge for deliberate change. anger is a detonator, it can kick start change.

i guess i should have spent more time figuring things out before i spill them on my blog, but hey, this is where it stands currently. slightly out of order.

take this as a reply to the wonderful, thought out opinions that i got as a response for my previous post.

thanks to you all.

useless

something that has been on my mind for a long enough time...

so what is this all about? you pathetic fools who are focused on exterior decor! are you really so superficial? are you really making the world a better place by being responsible for what a car LOOKS like?

lets think about it. what is your role in the process of creating a product? what is it exactly that you do? you get a project... usually your boss tells you what it is that you need to concentrate your creative muscles on. He is not the one who comes up with this subject matter, no, its his bosses... rather not even them, its their bosses in turn. So ok, here we have it, a new wonderful product, a car that is a replacement for an existing very successful car... all you have to do is make it look slightly more modern! and wow! behold, it will sell in even greater numbers than it does now! it is not any different from the older version, it just looks more 'modern'

sense a problem? you are an expert in superficiality! what a profession, what an occupation! some of THEM are surgeons! some of THEM are peacekeepers, activists, doctors, etc! some of THEM are engineers! but we are 'designers' otherwise known as useless, money wasting parasites who are responsible for how things 'look' like

we know what is modern and what is not, we are a living top 40 list! we know trends and we follow them! sometimes we are so cool, we actually go against trends (mind you it is still only due to the fact that we know about them in the first place). We sell useless things to boring people for the kind of money that they actually do not have (most of them get it as a loan from a bank), things that are of no benefit for them! things that are redundant! how on earth is the next 'blah' better than the current 'blah'? oh, i forgot, it looks more modern.

it used to be different, i do not know about you, but i had a different aspiration in life. i loved cars. not products, not marketing, not money. i loved cars! my hero was not Marcello Gandini, my hero was not Brian Nesbitt, my heros are not Freeman Thomases and J Mayses...

My heros were Enzo Ferrari and Ettore Bugatti! people who created cars! not their exteriors! Those who shit on trends and just did what their heart told them to do! they did not try to sell, they did not try to outsell, outcompete, outrun, outstyle. Does their job still exist? is it possible to become one of them?

Funny, i generally dislike those designers who spent hours picking out clothes, doing their hair, creating an ever evolving image for themselves... those of us (you) who bother to style everything about our (your) lives. i find it very superficial and unattractive: i mean is there nothing better you can spend your time doing? picking out a belt that fits your gay-ass slim pants, with a tight shirt that has been torn in a particular spot, exposing some of that freshly trimmed chest hair... superficial empty shell of a person! fucking idiot!

but who am I? who are we all? why is it ok to do to cars what I consider wrong doing to oneself? why is it ok to move lines up and down, play with volumes? make it more muscular (it still has only 100hp, no matter how much you sculpt those hips) etc! this is just as lame and just as superficial, just as pathetic, just as useless.

we are so absolutely useless.

i could go on, but it is also useless.

still work in progress!

just finished building a new body-side for the gto! its still not perfect but now, with some help from my friends, i hope it will become better and better!

still, these images are exciting to me. the new volume works better than the old one, more coke bottle and just more sculpture. i also threw out the crease line on the rear fender! looks far better with just a soft volume... i think its more gto genuine.

thanks for all the input, i have learned some good things from it! keep it coming.

update.. updated

great weather here in berlin... i have not been working much at home recently. besides i have much more exciting and important stuff going on in my life so this has to be a valid excuse for me.

nevertheless,

I have worked a little bit more on the bertone pharaoh, resolved a few corners and added volume to the surfaces... not a spectacular change but a bit of an improvement i think...

also i started working on some open wheel sporscar. there is actually a concept that i will try to work on together with a friend, collaboration style :)

but for now these are just some warm up sketches...

to be continued :)

red car

i bet some of you are bored with this car, but i still am not. i built an interior and finally made some red renderings. next thing on the list of changes is the exhaust. the whole car is so damn real now that the exhaust seems like the only toy-like bit.

here is a small video:
